GSSI Introduces Compass NX™: The Utility Locating Platform That Eliminates Compromise
New GPR System Combines Industry-Leading Performance, Modern Workflows, Rugged Field Readiness, and Continuous Innovation in a Single Platform.
NASHUA, N.H., September 14, 2026 – Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. (GSSI), the world leader in ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology, has announced the global launch of Compass NX™, a next-generation utility locating platform designed to help utility professionals locate, map, and deliver with greater confidence, efficiency, and value.
For years, utility locating professionals have been forced to make tradeoffs between simplicity and capability, workflow flexibility and affordability, or modern software and reliable field performance. Compass NX was developed to eliminate those compromises, delivering exceptional visibility for shallow and deep utilities, intuitive operation for users of all experience levels, and a complete workflow solution that extends from the field to the final deliverable.
At the heart of Compass NX is the new NX04/10 dual-channel antenna, featuring the next generation of GSSI’s patented HyperStacking® technology, which provides outstanding visibility across a wide range of utility locating applications, from shallow non-metallic utilities such as PVC, HDPE, and fiber-optic lines to deeply buried infrastructure.
Compass NX also introduces a modern mobile experience built around the NX Control application, allowing users to operate the system on compatible iOS® and Android™ devices they already own. The application is permanently licensed and included with Compass NX, eliminating recurring software subscription fees and helping reduce the total cost of ownership.
“The needs of utility locating customers have evolved significantly since we launched the first UtilityScan system more than 20 years ago,” said Chris Green, President and CEO of GSSI. “During the highly collaborative effort between utility locating customers and the GSSI product development team, it became obvious that customers are being asked to make major compromises between things like performance, usability, flexibility, ruggedness, and long-term expense. The NEXUS platform allowed our team to reconsider every aspect of a utility locating product and design Compass NX in a way that minimizes compromises for end users while also providing a product that is clearly scalable for future needs. We are all very proud of Compass NX, and we think customers are going to see a lot of value in it.”
Designed for rapid deployment and productivity, Compass NX features an intuitive QuickScan Mode that lets users begin locating in under a minute while still offering advanced controls in Project Mode, including data collection tools for experienced GPR professionals. Integrated mapping, target marking, in-field photo capture and documentation, and offline maps, help users move seamlessly from locating to deliverables without disrupting established workflows.
Built to perform in demanding conditions, Compass NX combines a rugged IP65-rated antenna and cart with compact mobility, adjustable antenna clearance, and all-terrain capability, making it suitable for virtually any jobsite environment.
Compass NX is the latest addition to GSSI’s growing portfolio of products powered by NEXUS, the company’s innovation platform designed to deliver continuous value through ongoing feature updates. NEXUS enables Compass NX to evolve alongside its users, delivering new capabilities and enhancements as their skills, workflows, and project requirements grow.
“Compass NX was built for everyone from first-time GPR users to the most experienced utility locating professionals,” said Kyle Purinton, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at GSSI. “Today’s users need technology that adapts to the way they work, not the other way around. By combining industry-leading performance, flexible mobile operation, permanent software licensing, and continuous innovation through NEXUS, Compass NX delivers long-term value that grows with our customers’ needs.”
Compass NX is available globally beginning September 14, 2026, through GSSI’s worldwide network of sales and distribution partners.
