  • GSSI Announces Integration of PaveScan RS with Trimble Roadworks, Advancing Real-Time Asphalt Compaction Quality Control

As part of this collaboration, Trimble, and its SITECH dealer network will serve as a key global aftermarket reseller of GSSI’s PaveScan RS technology.

NASHUA, N.H., March 4, 2026 – Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. (GSSI) has announced the integration of its PaveScan RS density profiling sensor (DPS) with the Trimble Roadworks paving control platform, expanding access to real-time density profiling to paving contractors worldwide. As part of this collaboration, Trimble, and its SITECH dealer network will serve as a key global aftermarket reseller of GSSI’s PaveScan RS technology.

This milestone reflects more than a decade of GSSI’s investment in the development and field testing of DPS technology. Contractors, DOTs, and equipment manufacturers have increasingly sought more reliable, real-time methods for understanding compaction quality, and that momentum has helped guide GSSI’s product roadmap and accelerate innovation across its PaveScan ecosystem.

“GSSI has been working alongside paving contractors and road owners for years to advance DPS technology, and the industry’s desire for real-time density insight has never been stronger,” said Chris Green, president and chief executive officer at GSSI. “Integrating PaveScan RS with Trimble Roadworks is another exciting step that brings this capability to more operators, helping them improve safety, quality, and efficiency on asphalt paving jobs.”

PaveScan RS is mounted under a roller and sends radar pulses into the asphalt mat, analyzing signal changes to generate a continuous density profile. When paired with Trimble Roadworks, operators can view this density map instantly from the cab, allowing them to correct low-density areas while the asphalt is still workable. This can prevent rework, lower project costs, and improve crew safety by working towards a future that reduces the need for coring in live traffic zones.

“Integrating PaveScan RS with Trimble Roadworks transitions asphalt quality management from a reactive process into a real-time, proactive approach,” said Kevin Garcia, general manager of civil specialty solutions at Trimble. “By delivering high-fidelity density data directly into the cab, we are eliminating the guesswork for operators and ensuring that compaction meets specifications before the rollers leave the site. This helps crews build more resilient infrastructure and can help improve jobsite safety.”

PaveScan RS is a core component of GSSI’s broader PaveScan technology ecosystem, which includes walk-behind and vehicle-mounted ground penetrating radar (GPR) solutions for quality assurance and quality control. The integration of PaveScan RS with Trimble Roadworks expands operator-level access to DPS technology across the paving industry, enabling crews to build longer-lasting, more consistent pavement surfaces.
