Description: The GPR survey supported a community led effort to re-discover and re-commemorate Defiance County, Ohio's only known, historic African American cemetery established by Archibald Worthington in the 1850s. The rural cemetery was lost to agricultural development by the 1930s. The GPR survey by CAAM (using GSSI 350 MHz HS antenna/GSSI SIR 4000) offered a chance for community members to learn about GPR applications to archeology and aided in identifying the location of the cemetery. The Worthington Cemetery Project is a collaboration between the Defiance Public Library, Defiance College, KYK9 Search Dog Services, and the Center for Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAAM, Penn Museum). The project successfully acquired an Ohio state historical marker for the cemetery site.
