Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries (together "GSSI", "we", "us" or "our") are committed to protecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and what choices and rights you have. It applies only to the NX Control mobile App. It does not apply to:

If you are located in the European Economic Area ("EEA"), the United Kingdom ("UK") or Switzerland, this Privacy Policy also serves as the notice required by Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR").
For the purposes of the GDPR, the data controller is Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc., 40 Simon Street, Nashua, NH 03060, United States. See Section 16 (Contact Us).
The App is a field tool for operating GSSI ground penetrating radar ("GPR") equipment and recording survey data. It is designed to work offline and to keep your work on your device.
The rest of this policy gives the detail.
When you use the App to run a survey, you create and store:
Purpose: to provide the core function of the App — collecting, displaying, organizing and exporting your survey work.
Where it is stored: in the storage folder you select when you first set up the App (you are prompted to choose one before you can create a project, and you can change it later). This folder is part of your device's own file storage — it is not inside the App's private area — so your survey data remains available to you through your device's file manager and other apps you authorize, and it persists even if you uninstall the App. Survey data is also written to any location you explicitly export or share it to.
Does GSSI receive it? No. The App does not transmit survey data, project data or photos to GSSI or to any third party. Data leaves your device only when you choose to export, share or transfer it.
The App collects precise geolocation in one or more of the following ways, depending on how you configure it under Settings → GPS Setup:
Purpose: to geotag scans and target marks, to display and record your position and track on the map, to support "Follow Me" and position-lock map behavior, and to apply any GPS antenna offset you configure.
Does GSSI receive it? No. Location data is written into your local survey data. It is not transmitted to GSSI. The App does not run location collection in the background when you are not using it, and does not request background-location permission.
Note for EEA/UK and California users: precise geolocation is treated as sensitive personal data / sensitive personal information under some laws. We use it only for the survey purposes described above. We do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
You can attach photos to a project by taking a new photo or by choosing an existing image from your device's photo library.
Purpose: to let you document a site alongside your scan data.
Scope: the App accesses the camera only while you are actively taking a photo in the App, and accesses your photo library only for the specific image(s) you select. Attached photos are stored with your project on your device and are not transmitted to GSSI.
Photos you select may contain metadata (EXIF), including the location and time the photo was taken. That metadata stays with the photo on your device.
The App uses Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy to discover, pair with and exchange data with external GNSS/GPS receivers and GSSI equipment.
Purpose: device connectivity only. The App scans for and connects to nearby accessories at your request; it does not use Bluetooth scanning to derive your location for any purpose other than the positioning function you have enabled, and it does not use Bluetooth for advertising, proximity marketing or analytics.
Android note: on Android versions before 12, the operating system requires apps that scan for Bluetooth devices to hold location permission. This is an Android platform requirement, not an indication that the App is collecting location for a separate purpose.
The App can read from and write to your device's storage so that you can:
.lic device license file, or data files you open in the App);Purpose: to let you keep your work in a location you control, and to get data in and out of the App.
Your storage folder. The App asks you to grant it ongoing access to one folder that you pick. It uses your operating system's standard folder-picker, so you decide where your survey data lives, and your device records that you granted access. The App reads and writes only within that folder (plus any individual files you separately select). If access to the folder is lost — for example if you move or rename it — the App will ask you to select it again.
Scope: the App accesses only your chosen storage folder, the files you select, and the files it created. If you share or export data, it goes wherever you direct it — that destination's own privacy practices then apply.
The App communicates directly with your GSSI radar over the device's own local Wi-Fi network (and/or Bluetooth or a wired accessory connection). This traffic is between your mobile device and your radar; it does not pass through GSSI servers.
Through this connection the App may read and write: device configuration and settings, scan data, device serial number and firmware version, calibration values, license status, and diagnostic/system logs. When you tap Firmware Update or Download System Logs, the App opens the radar's own web interface in your browser — that interface is served by your radar, not by GSSI.
The App may transmit a license file that you select to the connected device in order to activate it.
The App is designed to work offline. At present, the offline basemap feature is the only part of the App that connects to a GSSI server, and it does so only when you ask it to. Maps are not pre-installed — you choose which countries or regions you need and download them within the App.
The map packages are built from public OpenStreetMap data. Two separate steps are involved, and it is worth being clear about which is which:
Step 2 is the only point at which the App retrieves map data over the internet, and it goes solely to our map server. Your device never contacts OpenStreetMap or any OpenStreetMap distribution service, and never contacts any third-party map, imagery or search provider.
Once downloaded, everything about the map is local. Map rendering, panning, zooming, showing your position, and searching for a place all run against the files on your device. They generate no network traffic whatsoever, and no map provider, search provider or other third party receives any request, any location, any search term, or any other information about you at any point. The map styling assets are bundled inside the App rather than fetched from the internet.
Whenever the App communicates with a GSSI server over the internet — today, that means retrieving the basemap catalog and downloading the packages you select — our server necessarily receives certain technical information from your device, in the same way any website does. This is limited to:
Our servers keep minimal logs of these requests, as almost any web server does, for security monitoring, investigating abuse, and diagnosing faults. We deliberately keep the content of those logs to the minimum a web server needs:
Purpose: to deliver what you requested, and to keep the service secure and available.
Legal basis (EEA/UK): performance of our agreement with you, and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service.
The App checks whether a newer version is available and can prompt you to update. On Android this uses Google Play's in-app update mechanism; on iOS it links to the App Store. These checks are handled by Google and Apple respectively under their privacy policies, not ours, and we do not receive personal information from them as part of this.
The App stores your preferences locally — for example units, language, display and gain settings, saved device/connection details, and paired-device information. Certain values are held in the operating system's protected storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). This information stays on your device.
The App reads your device's language setting so it can display in your preferred language, and reads basic device/app information (such as App version and operating system) to display it under Settings → About and to behave correctly on your device. This information is used on-device.
For clarity, the App does not:
Do Not Track. Because the App does not track users across third-party apps or websites, browser "do not track" signals are not applicable to it, and we do not alter our practices upon receipt of such a signal.
The App asks for the following permissions. You can grant, deny or later revoke each one in your device settings. Two of them — storage and network access — are required for the App to do its job at all. The rest affect individual features only, and denying them leaves everything else working.

On iOS, connecting to your radar also requires the Local Network permission, because the radar is reached over the local Wi-Fi network it provides rather than over the internet.
How to change permissions:
How to delete your data. Because your data is stored on your device, you control it directly and no request to GSSI is required. Note that different things live in different places:
Uninstalling the App does not delete your survey data. Uninstalling removes the App's private storage — its settings and downloaded basemaps — but your projects and survey data stay in the storage folder you chose, by design, so that your work is not lost if you remove or reinstall the App. To erase your survey data you must delete the contents of that folder yourself. This is worth knowing before you dispose of, sell or hand on a device.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

Where processing is based on consent, withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
Because the App keeps your data on your device, there is very little to disclose. Where disclosure does occur, it is limited to the following:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own marketing purposes. In particular, no map, imagery or place-search provider receives any information about you, because the App's basemaps are downloaded from a single designated map server and then rendered entirely from files on your device (see Section 3.7).
GSSI is based in the United States, and the servers used to distribute offline basemaps and to handle support correspondence may be located in, or accessible from, the United States and other countries. If you use the App from outside the United States, the limited technical and support data described above may be transferred to a country whose data protection laws differ from those of your country.
Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK or Switzerland to a country that has not received an adequacy decision, we put appropriate safeguards in place, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the European Commission (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, where applicable). You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards by emailing security@geophysical.com.
We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. Within the App specifically:
Your survey data's security depends largely on you. Because it is stored in a folder of your choosing rather than inside the App's private area, it is subject to your device's own file permissions: other apps you have granted broad storage access to, anyone who can unlock your device, and any backup or cloud-sync service covering that folder may be able to read it. This is the trade-off that keeps your work portable and safe from accidental loss when the App is removed. We recommend you use a device passcode or biometric lock, keep your operating system up to date, choose a storage location appropriate to how sensitive your survey work is, and be careful where you export or share survey files.
Communication over the internet and over local wireless networks is never completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

To exercise these rights, email security@geophysical.com. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a request. Note that because your survey data is stored only on your device, we generally cannot access, produce, correct or delete it for you — you can do so directly at any time.
Categories of personal information. In the twelve months before the effective date of this policy, the App has involved the following categories of personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended ("CCPA"): identifiers (your IP address, received and recorded in server logs when the App requests something from our servers); internet or other electronic network activity information (those requests); geolocation data (precise location, processed on your device and never transmitted to us); and, if you contact us for support, the identifiers and information you choose to give us.
Sources. Directly from you and from your device.
Business purposes. As described in Section 3.
Disclosures. As described in Section 7. We disclose personal information to service providers for business purposes only.
No sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months, including with respect to consumers under 16 years of age.
Sensitive personal information. Precise geolocation is "sensitive personal information" under the CCPA. We use it solely to perform the survey services you request. We do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you, so the right to limit use of sensitive personal information does not apply.
Your rights. If you are a resident of California — or of another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware and others as they take effect — you have the right to know/access, to correct, to delete, to obtain a portable copy, to opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising (which we do not engage in), to limit the use of sensitive personal information where applicable, to appeal a denied request, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
To submit a request, email security@geophysical.com or call 603-893-1109. You may use an authorized agent; we will ask for proof of authorization. We will verify your identity in proportion to the sensitivity of the request. As noted above, data stored on your device is under your control and is not accessible to us.
Nevada residents: we do not sell personal information as defined by Nevada law.
The App is a professional tool intended for use by adults in commercial, industrial, utility, construction, engineering and similar settings. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at security@geophysical.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
The App can open external destinations in your browser or in another app, including:
Once you leave the App, the privacy practices of the destination apply. GSSI is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites and services.
Map data. The App's basemaps are built from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, made available under the Open Database License. Attribution is displayed on the map within the App.
OpenStreetMap is the source of the map data and nothing more. GSSI downloads OpenStreetMap data extracts and prepares them in advance; the App then downloads the finished packages from our map server (Section 3.7) and renders them from files on your device. At no point does the App contact OpenStreetMap or any OpenStreetMap distribution service, and no request, location, search term or other information about you reaches OpenStreetMap or any other map provider.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new App features, or changes in our practices or in the law. We will update the "Last updated" date above and make the current version available in the App and at https://www.geophysical.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/NX_Control_Privacy_Policy.html
This policy describes the App as it works today. If we introduce a feature that changes what leaves your device — for example an optional cloud backup or synchronization service that would upload your survey data to GSSI — we will publish an updated Privacy Policy describing it before that feature becomes available to you, and we will make such a feature something you choose to turn on rather than something enabled on your behalf. Your existing data would not be uploaded unless and until you opt in.
More generally, if we make material changes we will provide notice through the App or by other appropriate means, and we will obtain your consent where required by law. If we intend to process previously collected personal data for a new and incompatible purpose, we will inform you beforehand and obtain your consent where required.
